There is big potential in the economic cooperation between Croatia and Turkey and barriers in doing business should be removed, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and her Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday.
The two countries agreed to further strengthen economic cooperation, in particular in tourism, energy, agriculture, Grabar-Kitarovic said at the Croatian-Turkish Economic Forum, which was held as part of Erdogan's two-day visit to Zagreb and attended by 150 Turkish and 450 Croatian businessmen.
She called on Turkish companies to invest in Croatia.
Erdogan said economic cooperation was lagging behind two countries'political relations and he believed cooperation in tourism, energy and agricultural sectors could be stepped up.
"I think that we will soon triple our investments in the Croatian tourism sector. We are interested in the privatization projects which are under way in Croatia," he said.
Turkey has invested 212 million euros (240 million U.S. dollars) in Croatia since 1993, or only 1 percent of all foreign investments in Croatian economy, according to Croatian National Bank.
In 2015, the Croatia-Turkey trade amounted to 308.15 million euros. Croatia exported 92.23 million euros to Turkey, some 1 percent of its total exports, while Croatia imported 198.25 million euros from Turkey, also around 1 percent of all imports.(1 euro = 1.13 U.S.dollars) Endit
