Flight cancellations, delays expected in France due to nationwide protest

Xinhua, April 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

About 20 percent of air traffic are to be cancelled at Orly, one of France's main airports, and delays are expected at other airports in the country on Thursday due to a massive protest, France's Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) said on Wednesday.

The massive action was against a proposal to reform the country's labor code.

"The DGAC has asked airlines to reduce their flights by 20 percent at Orly airport. Disruption is expected on the whole territory," it said in a statement.

The aviation authorities advised passengers to check if their flights are cancelled before heading to airports.

Seven trade unions and student organizations planned to stage a nationwide demonstration across French cities on Thursday to demand the withdrawal of the government's labor code reform which, according to them, would further worsen work conditions and undermine employees' rights. Endit
