Slovenian interim culture minister to act for weeks

Xinhua, April 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Minister for Slovenians Abroad Gorazd Zmavc took over as the interim culture minister on Tuesday after Julijana Bizjak Mlakar resigned over a row concerning the UNESCO-listed Idrija mercury mine with Prime Minister Miro Cerar.

However Zmavc noted that he would only head the ministry for a couple of weeks as procedures are already under way in the Pensioners' Party (DeSUS) to nominate a new minister with full powers.

He wants a new minister as soon as possible, because "culture deserves it," he was quoted by the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) in its report.

There are several candidates in the public as to who could succeed Mlakar after her resignation, but Tone Persak, the State Secretary from Cultural Ministry, is reportedly the likeliest choice, the STA report said. Enditem
