2 killed in shell attack near Sudan's East Darfur state governor house

Two women were killed on Tuesday and others injured when a shell landed near the house of Governor of East Darfur State that saw security disorder for the past week, Sudan Tribune reported.

"An Armed group fired an RPG shell targeting the house of the governor, but it landed in a nearby house, which resulted in the killing of two women and injuring of four students," Sudan tribune quoted a source as saying.

"The guards of the governor's house opened intensive gunshots shortly after the shell landed, sparking panic among the citizens before the situations return to calm later," the source added.

East Darfur State has been witnessing security disorder after clashes renewed between Rizeigat and Ma'liya Arab tribes.

On current April 18 an armed tribal group stormed the state governor's house, burned it to the ground and killed three guards.

The events started in the state when an armed group from Rizeigat tribe ambushed a group of members of Ma'liya tribe, which left 12 people killed and 9 injured from both sides.

The conflict between Rizeigat and Ma'liya dates back to 1966 when the first confrontation broke out between the two due to pasture land dispute.

The most recent clashes between the pair took place in July 2014 where over 600 people were killed and 900 others wounded from both sides, while more than 55,000 were displaced. Endit
