Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei confirmed on Tuesday that it has been chosen to preside over the newly-formed Innovation Committee in Spain, which was established by the "Marca Espana" multinational business association.
The Innovation Committee will contribute to promote and publicize information about the work of foreign high-tech companies in Spain.
Huawei's Director of Institutional Relations and Communication in Spain, Maria Luisa Melo, has been named as its president.
"Research and development and innovation have to be key factors in the development of the digital economy. In this sense, Huawei wants to be able to contribute the vision of a company which annually dedicates 15 percent of its income to make research on new technologies as a motor for economic and social advancement," said Melo in a statement.
The committee has Google's Senior Policy Analyst Antonio Vargas as vice president and aims to promote a growth model centering on the support of companies based on innovation, with the goal of publicizing the work of foreign multinationals in Spain working in R&D, the digital sector and new technology.
