Russia's Primorsky to welcome 13,000 settlers

Russia's Primorsky region will see some 13,000 settlers come to the area for the state program "Far East Hectare," the local administration said on its official website Tuesday.

Vladimir Miklushevsky, governor of the region in Russia's Far East, said these people "will settle on three tracts of land in the Khanka area" of the region, which, located in the northwestern part of Primorsky and bordering Lake Khanka, is well known for its favorable climate and fertile soil.

About 650,000 hectares can be provided to the new settlers under the law of Primorsky, the authorities said.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said last week that the government mulled a bill that allows renting one hectare of land in the Far Eastern Federal District to every Russian for five years for free. Endi
