Tokyo stocks retreat in morning on oil price slump, U.S. shares' retreat

Xinhua, April 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks lost ground Tuesday morning as a drop in oil prices and a lackluster performance on Wall Street overnight soured the market mood, with some investors hitting the sidelines ahead of central bank policy meetings in the U.S. and Japan.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 219.86 points, or 1.26 percent, from Monday to 17,219.44.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 19.62 points, or 1.40 percent, to 1,382.21.

All industry categories on the main section retreated by the morning break, with marine transportation, banking, and iron and steel-linked shares comprising notable decliners. Endit
