Urgent: Senior army officer killed in Burundi's capital

Brigadier General Athanase Kararuza, senior adviser of security at the office of the Burundian first vice-president was shot dead Monday morning, a Burundian army spokesman said.

"General Kararuza was killed along with his wife by unidentified gunmen who mounted an ambush at Gihosha as they were going to work," Burundian Army Spokesman Colonel Gasparilla Baratuza told Xinhua.

General Kararuza recently served as the deputy-commander of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Endi
