Renowned Congolese musician Papa Wemba dies after collapsing on stage

The famous Congolese music star Papa Wemba died Sunday after collapsing on stage during a concert in Cote d'Ivoire, an official said.

Congo's cultural minister Baudouin Banza Mukalay confirmed Wemba's death, calling it "a great loss for Congo and for all of Africa".

The 66-year-old world music legend, renowned as the "king of Congolese rumba" for the fusion of Cuban and electronic rock that he pioneered in the 1970s, has inspired a generation of African musicians. Endit
