Feyenoord win Dutch Cup after 8 years

Xinhua, April 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Feyenoord captured the Dutch Cup after beating FC Utrecht 2-1 in the final of the KNVB Beker, the Dutch Cup, on Sunday in Rotterdam.

Feyenoord dominated the first half in their own De Kuip stadium and had an early chance through Michiel Kramer, but the striker missed. Three minutes from half-time Kramer headed in a cross by Kuyt to make it 1-0.

FC Utrecht came back stronger in the second half and Ramon Leeuwin equalized in the 51st minute. Feyenoord needed some time to recover from that blow, but coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team came in front again 15 minutes from time.

Eljero Elia dribbled into the penalty area of Utrecht and his shot went into the net via the post and Utrecht goal keeper Filip Bednarek, who had replaced injured regular first choice Robbin Ruiter.

Feyenoord captured their first trophy since 2008, when the Rotterdam based club gained the Dutch Cup for the last time. In total Feyenoord won the Dutch Cup 12 times now. Endit
