The Ecuadorian government on Saturday declared eight days of national mourning as the death toll from the massive earthquake that hit the South American country a week ago has risen to 654.

"Due to the loss of lives, the suffering of families, I will sign a decree on national mourning of eight days in memory of those victims," President Rafael Correa said in his weekly TV broadcast. (Ecuador-Earthquake-National Mourning)

ADEN, Yemen -- At least eight soldiers loyal to Yemen's government were killed and 15 others injured when a car bombing struck a military convoy in the southern province of Abyan on Sunday, a military official said.

The army soldiers backed by armored vehicles were struck by a booby-trapped car while they were advancing against al-Qaida stronghold in Zinjibar city, Abyan's provincial capital, the local military official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-Bombing)

ANKARA -- Two Rockets fired from Syria hit southeastern Turkish border province of Kilis on Sunday, injuring at least 10 locals, Dogan News Agency reported.

The two rockets fired from the Islamic State (IS) controlled region in northern Syria hit the central Demirciler neighborhood, the report said. (Turkey-IS-Rockets)

ISLAMABAD -- At least five people died after eating poisonous sweets at a hospital on Sunday, bringing death toll to 26 in eastern Pakistan's Layyah district over the last four days, local media reported.

Samaa TV said that 10 people are still being treated at Nishtar hospital of neighboring Multan district, where several of them are said to be in critical condition. (Pakistan-Toxic Sweets)

RAMADI, Iraq -- A total of 35 people were killed on Sunday in U.S.-led coalition air strikes and clashes between Iraqi security forces and Islamic State (IS) militants in the western province of Anbar, a provincial security source said.

At least 17 IS militants were killed and five of their vehicles destroyed when international warplanes bombarded IS positions in Albu Ali al-Jasim in north of the provincial capital Ramadi, some 110 km west of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. (Iraq-IS-Clash) Endi
