Nairobi bourse 20 Share Index ends week higher

The Nairobi Securities Exchange 20 Share Index gained a record 42 points Friday to close the week at a high of 4,010.82, reflecting a considerable rise in stock prices.

The All Share Index ended the week higher to stand at 147.55 points while the NSE 25 Share Index was up to settle at 4,236.96

Market turnover Friday stood at 5.7 million dollars from 5.9 million dollars the previous trading day.

Banks and leading telecom Safaricom shares registered the highest stock price increases Friday and in the entire week.

Safaricom gained 0.3 percent Friday to close the day at 0.18 U.S. dollars with 13 million shares traded, ending a fruitful week in which the telecom moved 60 million in total.

The banking sector, on the other, had 36.7 million shares traded the entire week, accounting for 29 percent of the week's traded volume.

In the sector, Equity Group Holdings recorded one of the biggest gain in share prices, from 0.38 dollars to close Friday at 0.41 dollars. It was the most heavily traded counter during the week with 20 million shares changing hands.

The energy and petroleum sector moved 11.3 million shares during the week, which accounted for 9 percent of the week's traded volume. KenolKobil, under the category, actively moved 7.9 million shares at 0.11 dollars.

The insurance sector during the week moved 5.5 million shares, the manufacturing and allied sector moved 7 million shares and the commercial and services sector moved 3.5 million shares. Enditem
