Grozdeva ends World Cup medal drought at Olympic test event

Xinhua, April 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Dual Olympic champion Maria Grozdeva of Bulgaria won her first World Cup series medal since 2010 by defeating China's Zhang Jingjing in the women's 25m pistol at a Rio 2016 test event on Wednesday.

Having qualified for the final with the best semifinal score, Grozdeva led from start to finish to win the gold medal match 8-2.

"I'm training really hard for the next World Cup stages in Munich and Baku," said the 43-year-old, who is also president of the Bulgarian shooting federation.

"I am also very lucky to have many people helping me with my job. We started from scratch three years ago, so we obviously have a lot of things to do."

Ukraine's Olena Kostevych, who won gold in Sunday's 10m air pistol, took bronze in the 25m pistol by defeating Germany's Monika Karsch 8-6. Endit
