Homemade bomb found on bridge in Istanbul

Xinhua, April 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

The police on Wednesday night detected a homemade bomb on Istanbul's Fatih Sultan Bridge linking the city's Asian part with its European side over the Bosphorus Strait, Turkish media reported.

The improvised explosive device was found on a motorcycle abandoned on one of the bridge's exit on the European side, the Hurriyet daily said.

It said bomb disposal experts were called to the scene and a controlled explosion was carried out.

The Istanbul police have been on high alert over the threat of more terror attacks, as the metropolis and the national capital of Ankara have come under a series of bombing attacks in recent months. Endit
