Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday congratulated Thongloun Sisoulith on his election as the prime minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

"I'm fully confident that under your wise leadership, traditional friendship, good neighborliness, solidarity and fruitful cooperation between Cambodia and Laos will be further enhanced from year to year for the mutual benefit of our two nations and peoples as well as for building a strong ASEAN Community," he said in a congratulatory message.

"I'm also confident that in the status of Laos as the chair of ASEAN in 2016, the upcoming 28th ASEAN Summit and related Summits in Vientiane will be held successfully. In this sense, I'm ready to cooperate with Your Excellency to ensure the success of these important events," he added.

Hun Sen also wished Thongloun to achieve greater success in realizing the new 10-year plan of socio-economic development 2016-2025 for the continued prosperity and well-being of the people of Laos.

Thongloun, politburo member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and former foreign minister, was elected by the Lao National Assembly on Wednesday as the country's new prime minister, replacing outgoing prime minister Thongsing Thammavong. Enditem
