China committed to enhancing chemical safety: CPCIF deputy chief

China is committed to enhancing efforts to ensure safety of chemicals, especially those that can be used for weapons, Vice Chairman of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) Zhao Jungui said Tuesday.
Speaking to Xinhua on the sidelines of the first Global Summit on Chemical Safety and Security in Poland, Zhao said China's practices in this field include full implementation of the dangerous chemicals production license and registration system, strengthening safety training and services within the chemical industry, and international exchange and cooperation.
"More than 80 percent of chemical accidents are result of human errors," Zhao said.
"The Chinese government is committed to improving the overall quality of employees. The government decided to create more than 1,000 chemical vocational and technical schools with and tuition exemption policy," he added.
The official said China was willing to launch international cooperation with regard to the technical aspects of chemical security.
The first Global Summit on Chemical Safety and Security runs from April 18-20 in Kielce, southern Poland. Officials and experts from more than 40 countries and regions gather here to discuss chemicals and waste management practices, propose appropriate regulatory measures and technical processing means.
