Bangladesh's ex-PM Khaleda Zia attends hearing of graft cases

Xinhua, April 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bangladeshi ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia appeared before a court in capital Dhaka on Sunday morning for hearing in graft cases filed by the country's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of the Special Judge Court-3 set April 25 as the next date of hearing in the cases.

One of the cases was filed in July 2008, saying Khaleda Zia, also chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and five others including her elder son Tarique Rahman had embezzled over 20 million taka (253,164 U.S. dollars) from an orphanage trust during her 2001-2006 prime minister term.

In 2011, the anti-graft body sued Khaleda and three others for pocketing 31.5 million taka (397,435 U.S. dollars) of the Zia Charitable Trust in the name of her late husband, former President Ziaur Rahman. Endit
