Mauritius President begins Pakistan visit

President of Mauritius Bibi Ameenah Firdaus Gurib-Fakim arrived in Pakistan on Sunday on a four-day visit for talks on bilateral matters, officials said.

During the visit, the two sides will explore the possibilities of further strengthening existing bilateral ties in various fields of common interest with particular focus on economic and trade relations, the Foreign Ministry has said.

The Foreign Ministry said Bibi Ameenah Firdaus will hold meeting with President Mamnoon Hussain where matters of mutual interests as well as regional and international importance will come under discussion.

"The visit will also provide an opportunity for resuming leadership level contacts between the two countries," the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Firdaus landed at the port city of Karachi early Sunday where she will receive private business leaders, Chairman the state-owned Trade Development of Pakistan and representatives of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries for separate meetings.

She will also pay a visit to mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan and undertake a tour of the Karachi University. She is accompanied with a nine-member delegation

Ishratul Ebad, Governor of Sindh province, of which Karachi is the capital, and senior officials and diplomats received the Mauritius President on her arrival. She had a brief meeting with the governor and ministers of Sindh province, officials said.

During her four-day stay in Pakistan, the Mauritius president will hold talks with Pakistani leadership on expansion of Pakistan-Mauritius trade and economic relations.

Bibi Ameenah Firdaus will also hold meeting with President Mamnoon Hussain where matters of mutual interests as well as regional and international importance will come under discussion. Enditem
