1st LD Writethru: 8 injured as Metro railway pillar collapses in northern India

Xinhua, April 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least eight people were injured as an under-construction Metro railway pillar collapsed in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow Sunday, a senior police official said.

"The incident happened when Metro workers were reinforcing a portion between two pillars. All the injured are Metro workers and they were admitted to a nearby hospital. No one has been killed in the incident," he said, on condition of anonymity.

The incident has led to major traffic snarls at the heart of the city, local TV channels reported, as the Metro railway tracks were being laid at a congested spot.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official added. Endit
