China's Du Li wins gold in Olympic shooting test event

China secured the first gold medal of the official Rio 2016 Olympic shooting test event when Du Li won the women's 10 air rifle competition on Saturday.

The 34-year-old finished the final with 208.3 points, ahead of second-placed Daria Vdovina (208 points) of Russia and Germany's Selina Gschwandtner, who was third with 186.8 points.

The competition also brought encouraging results for China's Yi Siling and Zhang Binbin. Yi finished sixth with 123.3 points while Zhang, who led the qualification round, was seventh with 101.9 points.

The event at the Olympic shooting center in Deodoro also serves as the Rio de Janeiro leg of the ISSF World Cup.

Shooters from 88 teams are taking part in the competition, including around 50 world and Olympic champions, according to organizers.

There was also gold medal joy on Saturday for Chinese Taipai as Lin Yi Chun outclassed Ray Bassil of Lebanon in the women's trap final.

Lin, who advanced to the final after after winning a shoot-off with China's Chen Fang, made a slow start to the gold medal match before hitting eight of her last nine targets. Her 10-9 victory in the decider was the first World Cup gold medal of her career.

Chen missed out on the bronze medal when she lost to Germany's Sonja Scheibl 11-9.

In the 10m air pistol event, Spain's Pablo Carrera took gold with 198.9 points, ahead of Serbia's Damir Mikec (198.9 points) and Slovakia's Juraj Tuzinsky (179.2 points).

Sunday's schedule was due to feature the women's 10m air pistol final and the men's trap final. Endi
