Int'l tourists' spending in Mexico up 6.8 percent in first 2 months

The spending by foreign travelers to Mexico in the first two months of 2016 increased 6.8 percent in comparison with the same period last year, the Mexican Tourism Ministry said on Thursday.

The ministry said in a press release that according to the Bank of Mexico, revenues from foreign tourists reached 3.297 billion U.S. dollars, up 211 million dollars from the same period last year, according to the Bank of Mexico.

A total of 5.6 million foreign tourists visited Mexico in January and February, a 10.8-percent increase from the same period last year, said the ministry.

The number of travelers arriving by air also increased 12.5 percent to 3 million in the first two months of 2016 on a year-on-year basis. Endit
