Afghan battle kills 13 militants in province

Conflict between security forces and Taliban militants in the northeastern Badakhshan province have left 13 insurgents dead over the past 24 hours, spokesman for provincial government, Ahmad Nawed Frotan said Thursday.
The clash, according to the official, erupted in Baharak district on Wednesday morning during which three police personnel have also been injured.
However, the official avoided providing more details.
Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban, told media that in the clash in Baharak district, five police have been killed and the fighting has been continuing.
Badakhshan province has been the scene of Taliban-led militancy over the past couple of years.
Taliban militants launched the annual spring offensive on April 12 and since have launched series of attacks in parts of the conflict-hit Afghanistan. Enditem
