Putin says Russia firmly leads in space sector

Xinhua, April 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Russia firmly holds the leading position in the space sector in the world, including the space launch market.

Russia's rocket and space industry have outstanding personnel, and scientific and manufacturing capability, Putin said at a concert dedicated to the Cosmonautics Day falling on April 12.

"A great deal of work has been done in creating our new national space launch center 'Vostochny'," Putin was quoted as saying by the official website of the President of Russia.

It was important to constantly move forward, actively develop new areas in the world space industry and offer new and breakthrough ideas, he said.

Putin called for utilizing Russia's space industry as effectively as possible.

He congratulated all people who work in the rocket and space sector on this holiday, the Cosmonautics Day, which is celebrated on April 12, marking the launch of the first manned space flight by late Soviet pilot and cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in 1961. Endi
