Esnaider named new Getafe coach

Xinhua, April 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Juan Eduardo Esnaider was named as the new coach of Spanish Primera Liga strugglers Getafe on Tuesday.

The Argentinean replaced Fran Escriba, who was sacked on Monday following a dreadful run which has seen the club take just two points from their last 12 matches and drop from mid-table to second from bottom in the BBVA Primera Liga.

Esnaider returned to the club where he worked as the assistant to Michel Gonzalez between April 2009 and December 2010.

The 43-year-old turned to coaching after a long playing career, joining the Real Madrid youth system when he was a teenager and progressing into their first team before also playing for Zaragoza, Atletico Madrid and Espanyol in Spain.

He will come face to face with his past in his debut as Getafe coach on Saturday when his new side entertains Real Madrid in a game they cannot lose if they are to retain a realistic chance of avoiding relegation. Endit
