Death toll of road mishap in eastern Nepal climbs to 23

The death toll of a bus accident in eastern Nepal has climbed to 23 on Tuesday, according to police officials.

The number of death went up when the rescuers recovered 10 more bodies from the site, local media quoted police officials as saying. Earlier, the rescuers informed that 13 were killed in the mishap.

An ill-fated bus traveling from Khotang district to Kathmandu veered off the mountain road and rolled some 300 meters down at Mahadevsthan. The site lies some 450 kilometers east of the capital city Kathmandu.

"We have recovered 23 dead bodies from the site while 30 injured in critical condition have been receiving treatment at Halesi health post," said Nepali Army's official Madan Neupane, who was involved in rescue operation.

It is reported that 50 passengers were traveling in the overcrowded bus. Endit
