Struggling Getafe sack coach Escriba

Xinhua, April 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spanish BBVA Primera Liga strugglers Getafe announced on Monday that they have sacked coach Fran Escriba after a run of results which has seen the club slide from mid-table into the relegation zone.

Getafe have taken just two points from the last 36 possible in a disastrous run which has seen them lose ten and draw just two of their last 10 games in which they have not been able to manage a single win.

Sunday' s 2-0 defeat away to Villarreal left Getafe second from bottom of the table with 28 points from 32 games and the club has not tasted victory since January 17th.

The former Elche boss is the 10th coach to be sacked this season and although Getafe coach Angel Torres has not named his successor, he confirmed Escriba' s replacement would be named on Tuesday.

Former Sevilla, Athletic Club Bilbao, Mallorca and Granada coach, Joaquin Caparros is the favorite to replace Escriba, but whoever replaces him will have a difficult debut as Getafe' s next game is at home to Real Madrid. Endit
