Jordan supportive of Syria talks in Geneva

Jordan on Sunday expressed its support of this week's talks between the Syrian regime and the opposition in Geneva, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh called for supportive efforts towards the negotiations in order to reach a successful political solution in Syria.

The minister made his remarks during a meeting with Staffan de Mistura, Syria's United Nations (UN) Peace Envoy, as they discussed regional developments and matters of shared interest.

Judeh reiterated Jordan's stance for a political solution which preserves Syria's unity and territorial integrity, and also includes participation from all segments of Jordan's society.

The minister underlined the need for increased supportive efforts towards the talks regarding Syria.

Judeh also stressed on the UN envoy's key role in further developing these talks, while the UN envoy emphasized the willingness to continue coordinating with Jordan in this matter.

He added that Jordan plays a key role towards reaching regional peace. Endit
