The following are the highlights of Zambia's major media outlets on Saturday.

- Zambian President Edgar Lungu has expressed concern over the increase in road traffic accidents involving public agencies and has ordered agencies responsible for road safety to control the situation.

The Zambian leader said it was unfortunate that despite efforts made to control road carnage, accidents involving public buses have continued.

On Saturday, 25 people died after a bus they were traveling collided with an oncoming bus in central Zambia's Kabwe tow. This is barely a few days after another bus accident in the same province claimed six lives. (TIMES OF ZAMBIA)

- The Zambian government has launched the first ever oral vaccine against cholera with a target of over 500,000 people in areas hit by the waterborne disease.

Lusaka Provincial Medical Officer Kennedy Malama said all persons older than one year and pregnant women residing in areas affected by the disease will receive the vaccine.

Cholera broke out in February this year in Lusaka, the country's capital and over 500 cases have so far been recorded, with four deaths. The disease has since spread to three other provinces.(ZAMBIA DAILY MAIL).

- The Zambian government is preparing terminal gratuity for members of parliament to be paid next month.

Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba said the Ministry of Finance has started processing payments for serving members of parliament to be paid when parliament is dissolved next month.

In September 2014, the members of parliament were paid their mid-term gratuity.

President Edgar Lungu is expected to dissolve parliament next month ahead of general elections to be held in August.(THE POST)

- The business community in Zambia has welcomed the appreciation of the local currency against major convertible currencies, saying this will stabilize the economy.

The local unit, the kwacha, has appreciated since last week.

Private Sector Development Association (PSDA) chairperson Yusuf Dodia said the country's economy was on the right track following the gaining of the local currency as this will result in a drop in prices of imported goods. (DAILY NATION) Endit
