Russia detains suspected terrorists, IS recruiters

Xinhua, April 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Russian authorities detained five members of a radical Islamic group, which was allegedly plotting a terrorist attack, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said Friday.

"Ammunition, explosives, and various chemical components and elements of improvised explosive devices have been found at their place of residence," the FSB said in a statement.

Those seized also included literature of extremism nature, the agency added.

The group, calling itself Pallasovka Jamaat, operated in the town of Pallasovka in southern Russia's Volgograd region, which is close to the border with Kazakhstan. It has been recruiting local militants to fight in Syria for the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, the statement said.

A criminal case has been opened as investigation was going on, the FSB said without elaboration. Endi
