26 political parties sign pact to support Burkina Faso president

Xinhua, April 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Twenty six political parties on Thursday signed a pact forming a coalition dubbed Alliance of Political Parties for the Presidential Majority (APMP) to support the five-year program of President Roch Marc Christian Kabore who recently marked 100 days in office.

"We, the APMP parties, will support and encourage the government to initiate economic, social and political reforms for the wellbeing of our people," the group's spokesman Adama Kanazoe said.

He said APMP was a grouping of political parties that will support and defend Kabore's political program and will actively contribute to its realization.

Kabore was elected in the first round of presidential elections held on Nov. 29, 2015 with 53.63 percent of the votes cast.

The election brought to an end a 13-month transition period following a popular uprising in October 2014.

Speaking during Thursday's event, the Speaker of Burkina Faso Parliament Salifou Diallo urged the population to have confidence in the Burkinabe president and his government.

"The results will be there after some time and by the end of his first term, we shall be able to assess his accomplishments," Diallo concluded. Endit
