Slovak police train for VIP protection ahead of Slovak EU presidency

Xinhua, April 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

A total of 55 members of the military police along with their colleagues from the Czech Republic are undergoing training on how to protect VIPs, state secretary at the Slovak defence ministry Marian Salon said at a briefing on Thursday in Lest, Central Slovakia.

The "bodyguard" exercise taking place in Lest is in preparation for Slovakia's upcoming presidency of the European Union (EU) in May 2016.

"Our military police will be able to tap into the experience from this exercise not only during the presidency, but also in relation to international crisis management and various foreign missions," said Salon.

Military police chief Milan Hamar underlined that the current security climate in Europe clearly indicated the importance of such exercises.

"The military police have been equipped with new weapons and technologies, and so we need to practice their deployment," stated Hamar. Endit
