Jordan to install solar panels at mosques, schools

Xinhua, April 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan on Thursday announced the launch of a project to install solar panels at the country's mosques and schools.

The project will cover around 6,300 mosques in the country and will help reduce pressure on the energy sector in Jordan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ibrahim Saif told a press conference.

The project will also cover schools, which will help reduce energy costs by around 90 percent, the minister added.

Jordan, which imports 97 percent of its energy needs annually, is implementing a strategy to increase the contribution of renewable energy to 10 percent in the overall energy mix by 2020.

Currently, renewable energy contribution to the overall energy grid is around 3 percent, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Endit
