Jordan proposes incentives to boost ICT sector

Xinhua, April 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan endorsed a series of incentives Wednesday to boost the country's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.

"The incentives aim to attract investment in Jordan, create jobs and transform Jordan into a regional ICT sector hub," Jordan's ICT Minister, Majd Shweikeh, said in a statement.

According to the incentives, services related to software development, mobile applications, website portals, outsourcing, digital contents and electronic games, information technology training and electronic learning are all exempt from sales tax and customs duties.

Goods and services necessary for ICT-related services are also exempt from a sales tax.

Income tax rates on such services will be reduced by 30 percent for 10 years, which means that companies will pay 14 percent in income tax instead of 20.

Also, the minimum required capital restrictions for foreign investments in the ICT sector were removed.

The ICT sector contributes about 12 percent to Jordan's annual gross domestic product. Endit
