The New South Wales (NSW) state government of Australia has announced changes on how the city will deal with incidents on the state's roads.
A review into the matter was launched following a major crash on Sydney's Harbour Bridge, which caused major delays for drivers.
NSW acting state Premier and Police Minister Troy Grant said the review recommended a number of new strategies to improve future responses to traffic incidents on approach to the central business district (CBD) and within the city center, including improving communication of those incidents to motorists.
"We know how important it is for police to thoroughly investigate serious crashes but we need to do better with our response and crash clearing times and communicate clearly with drivers so we can minimize delays for those on the road," Grant said.
Sydney's traffic was found to be worse than that of New York, according to a survey released in March 2016.
The international TomTom Traffic Index 2016 found that those living in Sydney spent an extra 151 hours waiting in traffic, making it the most congested city in Australia. Endit
