Israel arrests 25 Palestinians in West Bank, East Jerusalem

Xinhua, April 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israeli forces on Tuesday arrested 25 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem while Jewish settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Palestinian sources said.

The sources added that among the arrested are Islamic Hamas Movement leaders Nazeeh Abu Oun, 55, from Hebron, and Adnan Al-Husary, 53, from Tulkarem, in addition to three members of one family from Ramallah accused of plotting against Israelis two months ago.

Israeli public radio reported that the army sent the detainees for investigations.

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources said the Jewish settler group "Students for the Temple" organized an "incursion" into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem under Israeli security protection.

The sources added that special units and emergency intervention were deployed inside the compound and accompanied the Jewish group in its tour, while Palestinian worshippers protested their presence.

The repeated visits by Jewish settlers to the flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound have sparked a wave of violence between the Palestinians and Israelis since last October, leaving over 200 Palestinians and 30 Israelis dead. Endit
