Zuma's nephew denies having offshore account

President Jacob Zuma's nephew Khulubuse Zuma on Tuesday denied reports that he keeps a secret offshore account.

Khulubuse was responding to leaked files from a Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca, which claim that he, among a number of state leaders, businessmen and celebrities, is hiding money in offshore accounts.

According to the files, known as Panama Papers, Khulubuse's company, Caprikat Limited, scored an oil deal worth 100 billion rand (6.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Khulubuse's spokesperson Vuyo Mkhize told AM Live radio that Khulubuse has never had any income that is not disclosed to the South African Revenue Service.

"Business people register companies in tax havens every day for various and legitimate purposes," said Mkhize.

Mkhize said that "to try and imply" that Khulubuse is "either stashing money offshore or evading tax is just irresponsible journalism".
