Senegal holds military parade to mark independence anniversary

Xinhua, April 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Senegal marked its 56th independence on Monday with an elaborate parade by civilians, paramilitary forces as well as the army in the capital Dakar.

President Macky Sall, political and traditional authorities as well as diplomats attended the three-hour parade that was held at General de Gaulle avenue.

At the end of the parade, Sall said his government will reinforce both human and material capacities of the defense and security forces to guarantee security for the people and their properties.

According to him, prevailing security challenges require "patriotic behaviour and vigilance from all citizens."

Over 5,000 people were mobilized to take part in the event. They include motorcycle riders, hawkers as well as school children from various Dakar suburbs. Enditem
