Bottom team Hanover released head coach Thomas Schaaf from his duties, the "Reds" announced in an official statement on Sunday.

After suffering the fifth defeat in row and the 21st loss of the season, against Hamburg on Saturday, Hannover's club bosses and coach Thomas Schaaf came to the conclusion to part company ahead of schedule.

"After the tenth defeat in the last eleven games we came to the conclusion that we do not want to end the season like this. Therefore we made a change on the coach position to give the team a new impetus, knowing that staying up is only theoretically possible with a ten-point deficit," said Hanover manager Martin Bader.

From now on, Hanover former Under-19 head coach Daniel Stendel will take the helm for the last six games of the season.

Hanover sit on the last place of the Bundesliga standings. They have ten-point deficit to safety with six games to spare. The "Reds" clash with Hertha Berlin at the opener of the 29th round on April 8. Endi
