Xinhua, April 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Thousands of cyberattacks originating from abroad targetted Hungary's information technology network in the past 24 hours and were thwarted, Hungarian Interior Ministry said in a statement Saturday afternoon.

The attacks affected the main government website and that of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, according to the statement. It added the government would do its best to protect the networks which ensure the normal operation of the state.

Gyorgy Bakondi, chief security advisor to Hungarian Prime Minister, told Hungarian television channel M1 that the attacks suggested a high degree of organization. He said he did not know who was behind the attacks.

The government has advanced IT security systems, he added. Enditem
