Senior leader of al-Shabaab targeted by U.S. airstrike: Pentagon

Xinhua, April 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Pentagon said on Friday it had conducted an airstrike against a senior leader of the al-Qaeda-affiliated extremist group al-Shabaab in Somalia.

"In cooperation with the federal government of Somalia, on Thursday, March 31, the US military conducted an air strike in Somalia against Hassan Ali Dhoore, a senior leader of al-Shabaab," Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said in a statement.

The death of Dhoore was yet to be confirmed, said Cook.

According to Cook, Dhoore had planned and overseen attacks resulting in the death of at least three U.S. citizens, and he was also believed to have been plotting attacks targeting U.S. citizens in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. Enditem
