Domestic violence kills 1 woman every 30 hours in Argentina

Xinhua, April 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Domestic violence kills one woman every 30 hours in Argentina, and the incidence is on the rise, according to a report released Thursday.

The "Femicide Watch" report, published by non-governmental organization La Casa del Encuentro, reveals that 286 women were killed by gender-related violence in 2015, up from 277 in 2014 and orphaning 214 children.

Among them, 121 were killed by their husbands, or current or former boyfriends.

La Casa del Encuentro compiled the numbers by monitoring published reports in more than 120 national and regional dailies as well as Telam and Noticias Argentinas, the two major news agencies.

On International Women's Day on March 8, Argentine women marched against gender-related violence and other problems they face. Endi
