High security levels to protect fans at el Clasico

Xinhua, April 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

FC Barcelona have confirmed that there will be a special police presence to protect supporters attending the 'Clasico' football game between Barca and Real Madrid on Saturday night.

Spain remains on a level 4 alert (on a scale of 1-5) for a possible terrorist attack in the wake of the March 22nd attacks in Brussels and the November terrorist massacre in Paris, which saw bombs explode around the Parc de Princes football ground in the French capital.

The police presence will be in accordance for that level of alert, both for Saturday' s game against Real Madrid and also Tuesday' s Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid.

With the ground due to be opened to the public two hours before kick-off, the approximately 100,000 fans who will attend the game have been asked to get to the Camp Nou stadium well ahead of the 20:30 kick off time and have been advised there will be intensive searches at all of the gates to the stadium and that supporters will not be allowed in if they are carrying rucksacks, cases, large bags or bumbags.

Meanwhile there will also be an exhaustive control of vehicles parked outside and outside of the stadium complex and cars will not be allowed to park around the perimeter of the stadium either on Saturday or next Tuesday. Endit
