12 regional chief ministers approved for appointment in Myanmar: sources

Myanmar local parliaments have so far agreed to the appointment of chief ministers for 12 regions or states out of 14, according to local parliament sources on Wednesday.

The 12 chief ministers, proposed by Myanmar's President-elect U Htin Kyaw, are U Phyo Min Thein for Yangon Region, Dr. Lin Htut for Shan State, U Mann Johnny for Ayeyawaddy Region, Dr. Lei Lei Maw for Tanintheryi Region, U Win Thein for Bago Region, U Min Min Oo for Mon State, Daw Nan Khin Htway Myint for Kayin State, U El Phaung Shi for Kayah State, Salai Lyan Lwe for Chin State, Dr. Myint Naing for Sagaing Region, Dr. Zaw Myint Maung for Mandalay Region and Dr. Aung Moe Nyo for Magway Region.

The appointment for the remaining two chief ministers for Kachin and Rakhine States are expected to be announced later.

All the appointed chief ministers are members of the ruling NLD, led by Aung San Suu Kyi.

Meanwhile, the new cabinet, led by U Htin Kyaw, is scheduled to be sworn in to office later on Wednesday in Nay Pyi Taw. Endit
