Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning on ex-dividend selling, firm yen

Tokyo stocks lost ground on Tuesday morning due to ex-dividend selling, compounded by a firm yen impacting exporter-linked stocks.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 27.83 points, or 0.16 percent, from Monday to 17,106.54.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 3.91 points, or 0.28 percent, to 1,377.94.

Notable decliners by the morning break comprised mining, banking, and air transportation-linked issues. Endit
