A man was shot by police on Monday at a security checkpoint of U.S. Capitol complex after he appeared to draw a gun and point it at police officers, according to U.S. Capitol authorities.
The suspect had been taken into custody and was transported to a local hospital, said Capitol police chief Matthew Verderosa here at a briefing. (US Capitol-Gunshot)

GUATEMALA CITY -- At least 19 people died and 18 were injured Monday after a bus fell into a ravine at kilometre 160 of the Ruta Interamericana in western Guatemala, said local authorities.
The accident took place in the municipality of Nahuala, in the western department of Solola and was allegedly caused by speeding, according to relief agencies. (Guatemala-Bus Accident)

ALGIERS -- Algerian army troops killed two armed militants in two separate operations in Tizi Ouzou and El Oued provinces, said a statement of Defense Ministry.
"A terrorist was killed on Monday amid ongoing dragging operation being conducted in the forest of Sidi Ali Bounab, in the province of Tizi Ouzou by army forces, while a Kalashnikov machine gun and ammunition were retrieved," according to the statement. (Algerian Army-Kil)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that terrorists are killing innocent people as soft targets after they have been expelled from their hideouts.
