Brazilian federal judge Sergio Moro, who is in charge of the sweeping Petrobras corruption investigation, has sent the Supreme Court all documents found in Odebrecht offices, showing that the country's largest construction company made payments to over 200 politicians, Moro confirmed in a statement Monday.
According to the statement, the documents show that Odebrecht made payments to people benefiting from immunity, meaning they can only be investigated by the Supreme Court. The payments concern over 200 politicians from 24 different political parties, from the ruling bloc as well as the opposition.
The documents indicate that Odebrecht had an exclusive department in charge of making these illicit payments. Police sources said Odebrecht paid bribes to various people in order to win contracts for major infrastructure projects, including the Arena Corinthians stadium in Sao Paulo, an airport in the central state of Goiania, and a canal in southern Brazil, among others.
Odebrecht, which has admitted its participation in the corruption ring, has made a deal with Brazilian authorities whereby it will denounce other conspirators in order to reduce possible sentences against it. Enditem
