Irish bred Postponed was victorious at the next to last race of the annual equestrian race Dubai World Cup 2016 by winning the 2,410-meter long Dubai Sheema Classic turf race in a time of 2:26:97, marking a new track record.

Postponed who won the King George last year at Ascot and who is the property of Dubai's ruling family Al-Maktoum left behind horses Duramente and Last Impact, both owned by Japanese staples.

"It's a great day for the whole team," said Italian and England-based jockey Andrea Atzeni who brought home 3.6 million dollars prize money. His British trainer Roger O'Brien added "Dubai World Cup is a highlight and Postponed had a very good starting position in the middle if the pack, so we were somehow anticipating a very good finish, as he is good on soft ground and on hard ground, he is just a very good horse."

The Dubai World Cup held in the Medyan Racecourse is the world's richest horse challenge as a total of 30 million dollars prize money over nine races on a single day is granted. Endi
