Afghan forces bust terror gangs in southern province

Xinhua, March 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Personnel of Afghan law enforcement agencies had busted three terror groups in the country's southern province of Kandahar, the National Directorate for Security (NDS) said Saturday.

"Personnel of NDS have busted three terrorist groups of Taliban outfit during recent operations. A total of 15 arrests were made during the raids in surrounding areas of Kandahar province," the national intelligence agency said in a statement without providing details.

"The captives tried to conduct suicide attacks and launch terror activities in the province. The three groups were involved in series of major attacks on the security forces in Kandahar," it said.

The statement added that the timely arrest of the men has foiled major terror attacks and saved the province, some 450 km south of Kabul, from an expected tragedy.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as spring and summer known as fighting season is drawing near in the country.

The Taliban has yet to make comments. Enditem
