The opening ceremony of the 2016 China-Latin America Cultural Exchange Year ran at the Beijing Tianqiao Art Center on Thursday.

Artists from China, Uruguay, Argentina, Peru, Brazil and Cuba performed Latin American and Caribbean cultural shows at the event.

The two-day ceremony will feature ballet, dramas and other cultural programs. Pianist Lang Lang, the event's image ambassador, gave a piano solo during the ceremony.

The Uruguay National Ballet performed excerpts from Don Quixote with dancers from the National Ballet of China, and the Liszt Alfonso Dance Cuba dance troupe also presented their performance.

President Xi Jinping proposed the cultural exchange year in 2014 when he attended the China-Latin America and the Caribbean Summit in Brasilia. Endi
