Egypt's soccer team arrives in Nigeria ahead of African cup qualifier

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Egypt's national soccer team arrived in Nigeria late Wednesday ahead of the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria on Friday.

The Egyptian delegation comprised 23 players and 18 officials.

The visiting team, also known as Pharaohs of Egypt, will train for the first time on Thursday evening ahead of the opening leg. Egypt will thereafter host Nigeria four days later in Alexandria.

Friday's match will be played in Kaduna, located in Nigeria's northwestern region.

Egypt are presently topping Group G in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series with six points after beating Chad and Tanzania, while Nigeria is in second place with four points.

Nigeria will need at least to bag four points in the upcoming games to overtake the seven-time African champions who surprisingly have missed out on the last three editions of the African tourney. Endit
